Yi Hwang Academy of Language Excellence (YHALE) is a tuition-free, dual immersion, statewide charter school.

Before You Apply

  • Kindergarten: Applicants must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2026.

  • First Grade: Applicants must be 6 years old on or before September 1, 2026, regardless of whether kindergarten was completed at a private school.

  • Eligibility: All residents of the State of Georgia are eligible to apply.


Admissions Process by Grade Level

YHALE’s admissions process varies by grade level and follows the Georgia Department of Education SBOE Rule 160-4-9-05.

To ensure student success in our dual immersion program, all students entering 2nd through 8th grade must demonstrate the required level of proficiency in either Chinese Mandarin or Korean through the Avant STAMP 4Se Assessment.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade

  • Enrollment is open to all Georgia residents.

  • No prior target language experience is required.

  • Families must create a Lotterease account to submit and track applications.

  • If selected, an Enrollment Specialist will assist with final enrollment steps and documentation review.


2nd Grade and Above

  • Students must complete a sample STAMP assessment.

  • Register for and complete the STAMP assessment (click HERE to register).

  • YHALE will notify families of assessment results and next steps.

  • After receiving a passing score, families must create a Lotterease account to submit and track the application.

  • If selected, an Enrollment Specialist will assist with final enrollment steps and documentation review.


Non-Electronic Application Options

Families who prefer not to apply online, or who do not have access to electronic submission, may submit a paper application. YHALE staff will enter the information into Lotterease on the applicant’s behalf.
