YHALE CHILD FIND NOTIFICATION
YHALE recognizes its responsibility to provide a free and appropriate public education to eligible students with disabilities within its geographical boundaries. YHALE has a “child find” process that is designed to locate, identify and evaluate children with disabilities residing within the school population, kindergarten through grade 7.
If you know a child who lives within the boundaries of the YHALE School District and who may be in need of special education and/or related services, please contact the YAHLE’s Director of Special Education, Ms. Jovan Weatherly for further information regarding the referral and evaluation process.
The YHALE Child Find process extends to students with physical or mental impairments that substantially limit a major life activity. Such students may be eligible for services or accommodations pursuant to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Section 504 is a Federal civil rights statute that prohibits discrimination against persons with disabilities and programs receiving Federal financial assistance. Please contact the YHALE’s Section 504 Coordinator for more information regarding Section 504 eligibility and services.
Child Find Process
YHALE uses multiple methods to identify, locate, and evaluate children who are suspected of having disabilities that may result in a need for special education and related services. These procedures include but are not limited to the following:
- YHALE Enrollment Application (Pre-registration Form) includes the following information:
YHALE does not discriminate in employment or educational programs, services or activities based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age or disability in accordance with state and federal laws, as required by Title VI and VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendments, Age Discrimination Act of 1975, and the Federal Occupational Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
YHALE is a public school that provides all services required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), including meeting the Child Find requirements for students eligible for enrollment.
- The YHALE Registration Form includes an area for parents to designate if their child received special education services or Response to Intervention at their previous school.
- Following enrollment at YHALE, the Director of Student Information Systems performs a SPED history search after claiming a child’s GTID in GUIDE.
- If the parent of a child under the age of 5 (and therefore not eligible for kindergarten which is the earliest grade offered at YHALE) contacts YHALE regarding special education services, YHALE will refer the child and his/her family to the district he/she is zoned.
- YHALE has a Multi-Tiered System of Intervention program which is used to assess individual student needs, provide interventions, document results of interventions and make referrals for special education evaluations when students are suspected of having a disability.
